Douglas J. Key, MD
The New Edge of Beauty is the creative outlet for Dr. Douglas Key. He is passionate about laser medicine and specifically how lasers and energy are used to restore skin and remove that excess body fat of which few are fond. He is a board-certified dermatologist and the Medical Director of Key Laser Institute for Aesthetic Medicine.
This site is a collection of thoughts on the leading edge of laser medicine, successes and challenges in restoring skin, and the concerns Dr. Key hears most from patients. He also reflects on the direction in which medicine is headed in response to our drive to turn back the clock on our skin and body form.
Dr. Key is a dermatologist in Portland, Oregon with over 30 years of medical experience. His passion for research began at an early age, when he worked with a Nobel Prize winning professor as a freshman at the University of California, Berkeley. Throughout his undergraduate education, Dr. Key travelled the country to take part in research opportunities in various aspects of biological sciences. Through this research, he became interested in the field of medicine.
After attending and graduating from the University of California School of Medicine in San Fransisco, Dr. Key embarked on a pair of dermatology residencies. At Yale University, his residency focused on researching contemporary aspects of dermatology, and at New York University (NYU), he honed his skills in patient care and disease diagnosis. Dr. Key’s most well-known research took place when he was a Clinical Fellow at the National Cancer Institute in Maryland. During this time, his research led to the development of the drug Retin-A, which is commonly used for acne treatment and wrinkle reduction. He also spent time researching skin cancer prevention techniques and cellular methods to repair damaged skin.
Dr. Key continues to research the latest in laser-assisted body contouring and skin treatments, offering only those procedures he believes provide his patients the best and most pleasing results.
